The Diocese of Armidale will be represented among thousands of pilgrims attending World Youth Day (WYD) 2023 in Lisbon (Portugal) later this year.

ADIG is proud to support the Bishop and the young people of the Diocese on their pilgrimage to take part in this special event.

The financial support that ADIG is providing for next years’ pilgrimage will support as many young people as possible to attend.

Since 1986, WYD has been a powerful and life-changing experience for young Catholics around the world.

It has been instrumental in many pilgrims’ lives, whether reigniting or strengthening their faith, the event has consistently attracted hundreds of thousands of pilgrims from around the world.

Fr Damien Locke, Chair of the Diocesan Mission and Evangelisation Committee said he was thankful for the support from the ADIG.

“I am delighted that we are embarking upon a Diocesan pilgrimage to Lisbon for WYD’23. The newly established Mission & Evangelisation Committee is working to facilitate a pilgrimage to Rome, Assisi, Fatima, Lisbon and Lourdes, to be led by Bishop Michael Kennedy,” said Fr Locke.

“It is a strong statement and a practical commitment to building up and supporting our young people in their faith and toward their leadership of the mission of Christ into the future. I am particularly grateful for the support we have received from the ADIG. Please join me in praying for the success of the pilgrimage.”

ADIG envisages that the pilgrims who attend WYD 2023 will find an opportunity for lifelong friendship, along with further grounding and growth in their faith.
